One man dead after vehicle fire in central Sioux Falls, police say
One person was found dead inside a vehicle that caught on fire in central Sioux Falls early Thursday morning, police said.
Firefighters and police were called at 4:48 a.m. to a parking lot on Indiana between 8th and 10th streets for a vehicle fire, Sioux Falls police Sgt. John Spaeth said.
The vehicle was fully engulfed when emergency crews arrived, and a man who was inside was dead, Spaeth said. The man, who was in his mid-30s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The man's name hasn't been released pending family notification, Spaeth said. The fire is still under investigation.
The fire occurred outside the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, and police were on scene investigating for a few hours.
Madeline Shields, the executive director of the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, said that police had reviewed their security camera footage and saw the man go into his car at about 12:10 a.m.
The overnight supervisor is the one who called 911 early in the morning, reporting the car on fire, Shields said.
"This is just really, really difficult for our guests and staff," Shields said. "We pray that his family is found quickly."
