OnePlus vows its hotly anticipated Android phone will be the ‘fastest on the market’

You’ll have a hard time getting your hands on a OnePlus One

Even though OnePlus revealed many of the specs of its highly anticipated CyanogenMod-powered One Android handset, the company has yet to reveal its full specs and features. However, OnePlus on Tuesday announced additional hardware details for the One, in anticipation of the April 23 launch event.

After surprisingly announcing a few weeks ago that the OnePlus One will have a better processor (Snapdragon 801) than initially expected (Snapdragon 800,) the company’s CEO explained in a post on the OnePlus forums his motivations behind the choice, revealing in the process that the handset will pack the powerful 2.5GHz version of the Snapdragon 801 – namely the 8974AC chip that’s found on the Asian version of the HTC One (M8).

“We have chosen to move to Snapdragon 801 processor to take full advantage of the fastest SoC currently on the market,” Pete Lau wrote. “We wanted to bring the real-world performance enhancements gained from the many improvements the Snapdragon 801 offers over the 800. The higher CPU clock of 2.5GHz instead of 2.3GHz will bring more overall speed and an increased experience to the user.”

Lau added that choosing the newer Snapdragon CPU doesn’t mean the announcement and launch plans have changed.

He also said that the phone will have a higher GPU clock (578MHz instead of 450MHz) and fast eMMC 5.0 storage. The newer standard will “help to greatly improve the interface speed, reducing the amount of time needed to copy, open, modify and save almost everything that you’ll have on your phone.”

Lau also revealed that in terms of memory, the phone will have 3GB of RAM. Overall, the exec says the “OnePlus One will be the fastest phone on the market.”
