Superstar Entrepreneur’s New Internet Startup Aims to Even the Field by Letting Normal Users Customize Complex Legal Documents Using its Patent-Pending Software and Plain English

Using a slick and user-friendly interface, DocRun lets users create super-customized, and state-specific contracts or agreements instantaneously, just by answering a series of simple questions. These normally complex legal documents have been streamlined into easily understood plain-English for ordinary users. At the same time, DocRun’s team of six full-time attorneys and patent-pending software ensures that all documents are created within the constraints of federal and state law. This isn’t fill-in-the-blank stuff.
This basic, yet revolutionary approach to easily creating complex documents, without the complexity, is the brain child of CEO Jennifer Reuting, an entrepreneurial prodigy with a glowing track record of successful businesses in her wake – all catering to small businesses. With her experience in penetrating the highly-elusive SMB market and her ability to break down difficult legal concepts into fun, easy-to-understand processes, Jennifer is one of the few people primed to disrupt this space.
At the age of 17, Jennifer started InCorp, now currently the third largest registered agent service to over 100,000 companies nationwide. Following her true passion for helping small businesses, she also co-founded MyLLC, a leader in LLC and corporation formations which caters specifically to small businesses and entrepreneurs. In 2007, her reputation as an expert in corporate structuring and someone passionate about educating led Wiley to approach her about writing LLCs For Dummies, now in it’s 2nd edition and a bestseller. Her interaction with readers of the book was what inspired her help businesses beyond just the initial formation and led to the idea behind DocRun, her most ambitious venture yet.
“Most everyday people can’t afford to pay high priced attorneys for basic legal transactions, and the websites that exist only provide simple fill in the blank templates which aren’t customizable, aren’t state-specific and usually do more harm than good,” Reuting said. “DocRun is about something bigger than just another website and it’s bigger than just disrupting the legal industry,” Reuting said. “It’s about breaking down barriers to entry to entrepreneurship around the world.”
While some lawyers may initially feel threatened by a website that seemingly does their job for them, Reuting is quick to add that DocRun is not meant to replace lawyers. “Very few small businesses and independent contractors can afford a lawyer to draft the multitude of legal documents they need each year, so most folks either patch together documents on their own and pray they don’t get dragged into court or, absent a viable solution, they simply procrastinate. They know they really need to have a lawyer on board, but they simply can’t afford the costly retainers and the high hourly fees associated with creating common agreements. So, by taking out the legwork, we’re allowing small businesses to spend what little cash they have where it counts: on hiring a lawyer for complex issues, general guidance and document review.”
With the little innovation that has been seen thus far in the legal space, everyone knew that change would inevitably come. And given the track record of its CEO and a market ripe for disruption, it appears that the future may be here sooner than we think.
