    Open API Permits Third-Party Provisioning in Serv-U FTP Server

    RhinoSoft has published an integration guide and code samples that allow developers to use an open API to create and control user accounts, group membership, quotas and permissions on its Serv-U FTP server.

    When former Ubuntu executive Matt Asay declared that the "next decade will be about open APIs" it was only a matter of time before new open API solutions appeared on the market.

    One of the first to answer Asay's call was file transfer vendor RhinoSoft, who today exposed a powerful set of authentication options in the "Gold" edition of its popular Serv-U FTP server.

    "Web hosting firms love Serv-U Gold because it has no limit on the number of domains or users, allows them to enforce quotas and provides built-in web transfer, iPhone, SFTP, and FTPS services," said RhinoSoft President Mark Peterson. "Our open API lets Serv-U customers and the 'control panel' community that supports them to manage and expose all this functionality through their own portals and web sites."

    Serv-U's open API release includes a 40-page integration guide that describes how to create and control user accounts, group membership, quotas and permissions. The guide also includes the schema used to store configurations in the underlying Serv-U database, advanced information about password storage and permission flags, and code samples in PHP, ASP.NET and C#.

    "Whether you run Serv-U on Linux or Windows, the interface is the same," said Thomas Parikka, a RhinoSoft Technical Support Engineer and lead author of the open API documentation. "The interface also works the same way across all our supported databases, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, MySQL and PostGres."
