Pa. bishop draws criticism over Hitler remark

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Roman Catholic bishop in Pennsylvania is drawing criticism for comparing the public school system to those under Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

Harrisburg Bishop Joseph McFadden said in an interview last week with WHTM-TV that totalitarian governments "would love our system" of education. He said Hitler and Mussolini also tried to set up systems that would educate children "in one set of beliefs and one way of doing things."

McFadden told The Patriot-News in an email Wednesday he didn't mean to offend. He says he was making a "dramatic illustration" of how public schools curtail parental choice during an interview about school vouchers.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania is calling McFadden's comments inappropriate. Legislative director Andy Hoover noted the control of public schools is a democratic process.

The State will teach their agenda, it's up to you to teach your children to seperate the wheat from the chaff.

you have never been to Catholic school. The so called "agenda's" are different from school to school, especially the Theology. Very few Catholic schools actually teach the true faith, most dilluted liberal or personal intrepratations (social and relgiousily loyal). Very few Catholic schools have nuns or priests as teachers (if any).

All Roman Catholic school systems educate children "in one set of beliefs and one way of doing things"; that is, the Roman Catholic set of beliefs and the Roman Catholic way of doing things. And the administration of the Roman Catholic Church, from the pope at the top to the local parish at the bottom, is pretty totalitarian.

The school system IS exercising more control. Just read the stories of little kids being expelled for drawing war pictures of soldiers with guns and cannons, or a child who accidentally hugs another friend, or a student who accidentally brings an aspirin to school. There are more and more minor issues becoming under the control of dictator type administrations with no room for mercy or understanding. A little boy accidentaly brought a toy soldier , a very tiny toy made of flexible plastic, and they called the police. And look at the fear they put in these kids if they accidentally show a nail file. Years ago, these things were not at issue and nothing happened. A teen girl who brings an aspirin because she has a headache IS not doing drugs but she is made to feel as if she is. If this is the type of system you want your kids to go through starting with kindergarten..then okay....but remember, when Hitler started is governmental control of children in school, nobody saw anything wrong with it.....until too late.

The man does make some sense, the schools today are far too liberal in the educational process and promoting the leftist agenda rather than a balanced approach to the different belief systems within the nation. There is not one size fits all in the educational system, but it should be centered and not left nor right. I consider myself to be conservative, right of center. But I believe in an educational system that relies more upon the teaching of the fundamentals in an educational system without trying to push a particular agenda. Part of educating the student is to teach them to think for themselves, make qualified decisions to assist them in their future life and work. It isn't about producing liberal or conservative but about becoming a productive member of society.

Muslims have combated Feminism (Humanism) by stopping western education for girls and keeping women at home. The Mother is the PILLAR OF SOCIETY. Take her out of the home and society will crumble.

“What the Church has been for medieval man, the PUBLIC SCHOOL must become for democratic and rational man. GOD WOULD BE REPLACED BY THE CONCEPT OF THE PUBLIC GOOD.” ― Horace Mann, father of public education.

“The next century can be and should be the humanistic century. We stand at the dawn of a new age, a secular society on a planetary scale. As non-theists, we begin with humans not God, nature not deity. We deplore the division of humankind on NATIONALISTIC grounds. Thus we look to the development of a system of world law and a WORLD ORDER based upon transnational federal government (One World Government). The true revolution is occurring.” ― Humanist Manifesto II, published in 1973

“It is absurd to say that one is a humanist but not a feminist. Feminism is the last evolutionary development of humanism. Feminism is humanism on its most advanced level.” ― Raine Eisler, Humanist Magazine Nov/Dec 1980, Author of Equal Rights ERA Handbook.

“The adoption of democracy is fatal to good government, to liberty, to law and order, to respect for authority, and to religion, and must produce chaos from which a NEW WORLD tyranny will arise. You can never have revolution in order to establish a democracy. You must have democracy in order to have a revolution” ― Robert Welch - Republics and Democracies pg. 7

Authorities say there were no injuries or arrests outside the Florida Mall late Thursday. The crowd began getting unruly as hundreds packed the parking lot, waiting to buy the $220, limited-edition shoe that was timed to be released during the NBA All-Star Game in Orlando.
