    Pa. congressmen fighting Pittsburgh base closure

    PITTSBURGH (AP) — Four western Pennsylvania congressmen are pushing a bill that would prevent the Air Force from closing the 911th Airlift Wing near Pittsburgh, but are hoping to persuade Air Force officials to keep it open during a meeting on Thursday.

    If that fails, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, a Republican from Upper St. Clair, will push forward with the bill because he says congressional approval is needed to close the base. The Air Force has said that's not so because fewer than 300 civilians work there, but Murphy says his figures show 318 civilian employees.

    The Air Force last week announced plans to retire or transfer all seven C-130H2 aircraft from the base over the next two years.

    Murphy's bill, co-sponsored by Democrat U.S. Reps. Jason Altmire, Mike Doyle and Mark Critz, would ban relocating those planes.

      It's way past due,for another round of a BRAC team to start closing more military installations.The Pittsburgh should be dropped etc.
