Pa. woman sues Dunkin' Donuts over sugar in coffee

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia woman is suing Dunkin' Donuts, saying a worker mistakenly put sugar in her coffee, which ultimately caused her to go into diabetic shock.

Danielle Jordan's lawsuit claims she asked for artificial sweetener to be added to her coffee during a June 2009 visit. Jordan claims she downed the drink and experienced dizziness, light-headedness and ended up making an emergency trip to the hospital.

A legal liaison for the Canton, Mass.-based doughnut chain told the Philadelphia Daily News she couldn't comment on the case. But she says employees only provide customers with the order they ask for.

Jordan's lawyer, Kenneth Rodgers, says his client couldn't tell from the taste of the coffee that she got sugar instead of her preferred artificial sweetener. He says she didn't finish the drink before she fell ill.

    The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

This person needs to see her doctor if she went into a Diabetic Shock. Because she needs to be educated on what it is. This is a SCAM!!!! Remember McDonalds was sued fro coffee being too hot!!! What a joke!!

I've been a diabetic for 10 years, and I can tell when I am mistakenly given a non-diet drink. There is a definite difference in the taste, and if I have any doubts I stop drinking it! This lady is full of it, and a glowing example of what's wrong with our legal system!!!

get black coffee and add your own sweetner if its such an issue.....
    • Summer66  •  8 mths ago
why didn't she put in the sweetener herself?

If you want to avoid sugar, stay out of DUNKIN' DONUTS!!
    • Mary  •  8 mths ago
She should have put the sweetner in herself to avoid any issues to her health...DUH! Money hungry...

She should put her own sweetener in if she is diabetic. What a scammer!

As a diabetic myself this story is quite embarrassing! I think she needs to consult her doctor and go through diabetic classes again and learn what it means to be responsible. If she gets 1 Penny in a lawsuit it will bet yet another example of a frivolous lawsuits killing this country!!!!!

If she needs artificial sweetner, she would have noticed that it was sugar in her coffee and not the fake stuff. It tastes very different! She should have stopped drinking it after the first sip... 2 years later, she's looking for some free cash!

She wouldn't go into diabetic shock from ingesting sugar. Her insulin levels would go up, her blood would move like molasses and she would become lethargic. Dizziness and light-headedness are caused when your blood sugar drops, from lack of sugar.
    • NoNotMe  •  8 mths ago
She didn't watch them make the drink? Wow. I think I'll sue because I had to endure this lame attempt at unearned riches by another LOSER.
