JERUSALEM (AP) — The military says a Palestinian was killed after Israeli soldiers came under fire during an arrest raid in the West Bank.
The military says soldiers were detaining "a suspect involved in terror activities" early on Tuesday in the town of Jenin, when Palestinians opened fire at the Israeli forces and threw improvised explosives and rocks at them, wounding two troops.
It says the Israeli soldiers returned fire, killing one Palestinian and wounding two.
Military spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, says the military is investigating the incident.
Lerner says any military operation to apprehend suspects "in urban areas is an extremely complicated task" because they often "take refuge within the civilian population."
