Palin 'The Undecider' Has a GOP Poll Problem -- Unelectability

Sarah Palin could very well be unelectable. Try to "refudiate" it all they want, supporters of the one-time governor of Alaska cannot escape her poor polling numbers. And those numbers, as evidenced in a recent Pew Research survey, do not just reflect an electorate that find her unpopular as a presidential candidate, they also show that there are many Republicans who would not vote for her.

According to the poll, Palin, who has yet to decide on whether or not she will run for the highest office in the land, only 13 percent of registered voter respondents said that there was a "Good" chance they would vote for her, with only 19 percent saying that there was some chance they might. A full 67 percent said there was "None." To make the numbers comparatively worse, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who lead all the declared and potential candidates, scored 12 percent less as a recognized contender but saw 16 percent of the electorate saying there was a "Good" chance and 38 percent noting there was "Some" chance they could be persuaded to vote for him. Only 42 percent said they was no chance they would vote for Romney.

Of the nine 2012 GOP candidates, Palin placed eighth overall in appeal to registered voters, placing only a percentage point ahead of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich in the total of "Good" and "Some" chance respondents. But she also polled the worst among those who said there was no chance they would vote for her.

And those poll numbers are partially bolstered by a heavy number of Republicans that do not support her candidacy as well. The Pew report indicates that among Republican and Republican-leaning independents, only 24 percent say there is a "Good" chance they'll vote for her, with another 34 percent saying there was "Some" chance. But 41 percent say there is no chance she can win their vote.

To win elections, one has to get the support of the electorate. In a presidential election, a contender has to first get their political party behind them. For many, it takes time, hard work, and maximizing one's opportunities. For some, it might take only a good showing in a debate, a resonating sound bite, or simple charismatic appeal. Palin -- as the Undecider -- has strung out the possibility of her participation for three years, perhaps to the point that many Republicans and the electorate at large no longer consider her a serious presidential candidate. She has had all of the aforementioned advantages to gain support, not to mention financial backing and media accessibility. Still, she has hovered primarily within the 10-15 percent range in most national polls.

And she has a history of being considered unelectable -- even among voters in her own party.

Back in October, former White House political advisor Karl Rove said that former Alaska governor Palin lacked "gravitas," that she could only capture a following of "true believers," that Americans would reject her. He most recently told "Fox News Sunday" that she had teased the country long enough and had run out of time, stating that her announcement about her decision to run would come around the Labor Day weekend or shortly thereafter. And although he could be incorrect in his prediction of when she might -- or might not -- announce, it is beginning to look as if his assessment of her political standing among the electorate might have been point on.

As for whether or not Sarah Palin might actually run, her latest "undecided" comment came via CNN, where she indicated to a correspondent that she would most likely make an announcement by the end of September.

Well, I guess I'll just wait around for another journalist to tell me which GOP candidate I am supposed to support then. Oh wait, we did that in 2008 and it didn't work. Remember the days when the NY Times was calling McCain a maverick?

Gee, this sounds suspiciously like 1979. The same pundits said the same thing about (extreme, dunce, actor) the winner in 1980. Saying they were WRONG is like saying Obama is a mediocre president, it doesn't begin to describe the changes that will happen after she is elected & recovery begins

The people that donated to Sarah-Pac have one question for Palin..."What the HELL did you do with our money?"
      • JD 9 mths ago

Sarah is rewriting the rules, Get used to it. You are being played by both sides. They like the gridlock.
      • Cajunlady 9 mths ago
Spot On! Both sides are scared of Sarah because she says what she means, and means what she says.
      • jackie 9 mths ago
The only rules Palin will try to rewrite will be court laws...while she's there for FRAUD,misuse of Sarah-Pac donations!

Sarah Palin represents a new paradyne or dimension to politics. It drives people like Dick Morris, Carl Rove, and the entire political establishment nuts. They cannot understand anything that develops from the ground up. In their world, all politics develops from the top down, following established rules of political behavior. This tea party activity escapes them. This will be a truly revolutionary campaign. Sarah Palin is us....a commoner. One of the people will rise from the bottom up to the POTUS.

Sarah Palin has been vetted, especially in the past 3 years like no one else; she’s probably the cleanest politician out there.
There’s never been a candidate to get a more thorough examination by the media, the left, and the right. Sarah Palin has withstood the slings, barbs, bullets, and arrows that would have fallen a lesser person.
The media and the REP establishment ( the Karl Roves) have done everything they can to vilify Sarah Palin and her family but despite a massive effort to destroy Sarah Palin, she is still on her feet and making a difference in the political world.
    • Charles  •  9 mths ago
Obama is also now unelectable even with 90% of media slobbering over him like lovesick schoolgirls. Palin remains a potential contender in spite of the fact that the same media have torn her apart for three years. She also remains a contender because she accomplished more in three years as a governor that Barrak Obama accomplished in his entire career and the fact that she accomplished it in a unique bipartissan manner with the opposition Democrats.

No one is being fooled by the Republican elites like Tokyo Rove who are in bed with Dick Morris and Ed Rollins to try to keep Palin out. The push polling by "in the tank for Romney" Rasmussen for little crony capitalist Romney is pathetic. Gallup and PPP are push polling for the Democrat side. Frank Duntz is also on the payroll. They are transparent. Yes, the political class is united on both sides to take out Palin but the little people are not being fooled. Romney's front running status is threatened now that fellow "crony capitalist" Slick Rick Perry entered the race. Romney's "bought and paid for" stalking horse and Tea Party sellout Michele Bachmann numbers are in a free fall. The little people didn't by the elite's head fake.So now Republican establishment Tokyo Rove needs Palin in the race to fight Perry and stop the bleeding from Romney. Palin is playing 3 dimensional chess. She ain't biting. She is wisely allowing Romney and Perry to duke it out.
Governor Palin has a grassroots army of David's 750,000 strong sitting on go in Organizing for Palin. This will be an unconventional campaign political science students will study for the brilliance of Governor Palin who is able to think outside the box.
Whores like Karl Rove, Dick Morris, and Republican establishment hack Ed Rollins purses are being threatened. When Palin succeeds she will banish their profession to the ranks of the unemployed. Yes, they thought they were insulated, too bad.
Obama talked about putting a stake in the heart of lobbyists, Palin will deliver.
Both political parties are corrupt and are united against Palin. She represents the people and now that the documentary "The Undefeated" has been released the public has been educated as to just why both the media and the Republican Party needed to stop Palin. Governor Palin exposed the corruption in her own Republican Party in Alaska and went up against the Republican machine. That is a mortal sin in politics. The Democrats in Alaska assisted Governor Palin in passing her agenda. That information can't be allowed to get out because it proves Governor Palin to be a uniter not a divider and just what this country needs at the moment. The release of her over 24,000 e-mails shows her to be a competent and engaged CEO who was a proven reformer.
Governor Palin fought big oil in Alaska. The media doesn't want you to know that. By the time she left the governorship she turned Alaska around and left the state with a $ 12 BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS. That information must be suppressed at all costs by the Republican and Democrat elites assisted by their media propagandists.
Do yourself a favor and watch "The Indefeated" on Pay Per View on September 1st. You will get so pissed by how much you have been played.
We are taking American back, Mr. President, Game Øn!
      • Cajunlady 9 mths ago
I absolutely agree, JD. Governor Palin has more grassroots support than any of the other candidates. The pollsters have never called me, or any other Palin supporter that I know. What the Roves of the world fail to realize is that there are many former Dems, now Indies who strongly support Gov Palin. People need to watch the Undefeated on PPV or on DVD, it will give a whole new perspective on Sarah Palin and her record. It will also show Mr Rove to be the thin-skinned one. No One who sees what she has been through over the past 3 years could think her thin skinned. FYI, Mr Rove, it is called turning the Alinsky playbook back on the Dems! This former Dem plans to do that with great regularity in the run up to 2012 on behalf of Gov Palin. GAME ON!
      • ed 9 mths ago
You read it here first. Sarah is going to kick President downgrades' #$%$ so badly that 1979 is goping to look like a tie.
    • A Yahoo! User  •  9 mths ago
I hope Sarah Palin runs; she is rock solid on the issues and she has a great record of accomplishment.

The truth is that Sarah Palin is more than qualified to step up to the plate this 2012 election cycle if she so chooses.
And as far as her “electability,” that decision rests with voters, not with those media and establishment voices who are decidedly desperate to shove her off the stage and to shape the 2012 presidential narrative.

What people don’t want is the media and establishment choosing our candidate for us.

The GOP elite and media has done everything in its power to derail a Sarah Palin run. They have attacked her, they have ignored her, and now they have dismissed her as a formidable candidate–and still the people are determined to select our own candidate.

Palin is unelectable? What about President Double-bogey?
    • Dr michael Yeager  •  9 mths ago
Have you all convinced yourself Yet that she is Unelectable? The American people have a capacity to do the unthinkable. Our present president had almost 0 experience. The previous president, should have only been A one term president? We might be surprised! The nation was ripe for an Obama. Whether we acknowledge it or not situations are much worse for the average American. The environment might be just right for people to do the unthinkable. Even if at this time the polls say otherwise. There's too many Variables to determine what will happen. We Have a Long Year Ahead of Us!

She better get busy Bachmann already has her beat for being the most stupid this month. I am not too worried Palin has not let us down in this competition before.
