Panathinaikos wins Champions League spot

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Panathinaikos sealed its place in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League on Wednesday after the Athens club held on for a 1-1 draw against Atromitos to win the Greek league playoffs.

Viktor Klonaridis tapped home a loose ball in the 33rd minute to put Panathinaikos ahead, while Atromitos' Stefano Napoleoni got the equalizer five minutes from the end of a match played without spectators at Leoforos stadium due to recent crowd violence.

PAOK lost 1-0 at Asteras in Wednesday's other match, with Argentine Mauricio Carrasco scoring the only goal.

Panathinaikos struggled early in a season dominated by Olympiakos, but recovered to win the Greek Cup and the six-round playoffs that end on Sunday.

Other playoff teams will be awarded spots in the Europa League.
