Paris fitness event shows the world how the French get fit

The Salon Mondial Body Fitness Form'expo is in Paris March 16-18.

On Friday, Paris's massive Salon Mondial Body Fitness Form'expo opens its doors, with thousands of visitors checking out the hottest fitness trends in France, such as aqua biking, Les Mills cardio series, and Reebok's Crossfit.

Similar to Canada's Canfitpro and the US's IHRSA, the event -- now in its 25th year -- expects to draw some 20,000 visitors and 100 international companies to Paris, March 16-18.

Attendees can check out the latest products and trends, or take classes in a range of popular techniques surging in France and the rest of the world, including Reebok Crossfit, PowerPlate, the ever-popular Zumba, Leaderfit, and the Les Mills series -- the New Zealand-based intense cardio series with classes such as  BodyAttack, BodyCombat, BodyJam and others.

Other workshops cover techniques such as Kanga Style, choreographed cardio classes involving jumping on a sport trampoline; Hamac Stretch Yoga, suspension yoga that launched in the US a few years ago but is now making its way to France; and the TRX Rip Trainer, a medium resistance cord for core strength training.

Plus expect to see the newest line of aqua fitness equipment -- a hot trend in France that originated in Italy several years ago and is now fashionable in several European countries as well as gyms in New York and Los Angeles. The premise: indoor group cycling classes on stationary bikes in the pool, for intense workouts relying on water resistance while reducing risks of injuries. Check out new aqua group exercise bikes, new elliptical aquatic trainers, and a resistance underwater trainer for kids called Waterkid.

Fashion will also be key at the event, with brands such as Reebok, Suzana Gateira, Flying Yoga, Nike and Adidas flaunting their latest athletic wear lines.

Some hot topics on the table include "Fast-Fitness" -- how to stay in shape on a tight budget and schedule -- and embracing Web coaching technology and wireless fitness trackers.
