Paris wax museum expands to Montreal, plans to show likenesses of Quebec celebs
MONTREAL - The Grevin wax museum in Paris, a tourist attraction founded in 1882 and visited by more than 800,000 people a year, plans to open a branch in Montreal, its first foray outside of France.
The 4,000-square-metre site will occupy two floors in the downtown Montreal Eaton Centre. The opening date is set for April 19.
Astronaut Julie Payette, singer Celine Dion, actor Roy Dupuis, composer Robert Charlebois and hockey player Guy Lafleur are among Quebecers whose likenesses will be featured, along with an international contingent of celebrities including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga, a publicist said.
A total of 120 wax figures, newly created in Paris, will be displayed at Grevin Montreal in elaborate settings, according to the museum.
Grevin is owned by the Paris-based Compagnie des Alpes, which also operates ski resorts and amusement parks in several European countries.
