Pebble Watch Now Lets You Pay Via PayPal

If you are intrigued by the idea of never needing to take out your wallet to pay for anything, you're in luck: another Apple Pay rival has arrived, this time from PayPal. The company announced that its PayPal app is now available for Pebble smartwatch users, allowing them to pay using their accounts directly from their wrists.

Using the Pebble PayPal app will be a much different experience than using Apple Pay on the upcoming Apple Watch. According to the company's blog, the app generates a payment code that appears on your Pebble smartwatch, which retailers can use to check you out at the register. Unlike Apple Pay, the Pebble PayPal app doesn't use NFC technology, and you don't need a connected smartphone to use the app -- just open it on your Pebble watch and you're ready to pay for those holiday gifts.

However there are some caveats: you have to have a PayPal account -- since the app will only draw from those funds -- and you have to shop at a store that accepts PayPal. It seems slightly limited in these respects since Apply Pay works with nearly any credit or debit card, so you can use it at any store that takes those cards, giving you many more shopping options.

PayPal also announced that the app works with Android Wear and Samsung Gear smartwatches, expanding the app's reach beyond Pebble.
