Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in front of Leominster Walmart

Shoppers at the Walmart in Leominster were startled to see a massive crime scene right outside the entrance Monday night.

“It’s scary because there’s so many, you always hear stories of active shooter, so you don’t know what’s going on,” said Chuemae Yang, while shopping at the Walmart.

Police blocked off most of the entrance after they say a driver hit a man, who was in a motorized scooter. That man has died, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office.

The driver was taken to the hospital as well.

“As we got closer we noticed like the big fire truck over there and the pickup truck, and we were like, oh crap, because it’s like way up near the guardrail,” said Crystal Wood, a shopper.

Police believe the driver had a medical episode before hitting that man and then crashing into the guardrail at the edge of the property.

“Just the clothes just laying there and the shoes and it was just the cops guarding it and the cops by the truck and it was just like vibes that you definitely knew something bad happened,” said Wood.

Police spent hours investigating what happened while the Walmart stayed open.

Shoppers were able to use one entrance while most of the area outside the store was blocked off for this crime scene.

Shoppers say they feel for both the victim and driver in this case.

“Sad for both, sad for who had the medical condition and the guilt they’ll feel after and sad for the person who actually got hit and their families, both families,” said Wood.

Police say the driver needed medical treatment, but it’s still unclear what his condition is and why he crashed.
