House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi came out swinging at House Republicans on Friday for pushing a vote on a bill that will fund the Department of Homeland Security for the next three weeks.

Speaking to reporters Friday morning, Pelosi reiterated Democratic support for a vote to fund DHS for the entire year and called the House GOP’s recalcitrance “a staggering failure of leadership that will prolong this manufactured crisis of theirs and endanger the security of the American people.”

The short-term bill, which the House will vote on later Friday, before DHS’s looming midnight shutdown, will allow Republicans time to possibly dismantle President Obama’s executive amnesty action.

“Democrats will not dignify House Republicans toxic anti-immigrant riders by supporting going to conference,” Pelosi said. “House Republicans’ ineptitude and legislating is endangering our entire country.”

The California Democrat praised the Senate, which on Friday passed a clean funding bill, 68-31.

“They have done their work. We should do ours,” Pelosi said.

“With every House Democrat supporting long-term DHS funding legislation, it’s clear this crisis exists only because Republicans prioritize anti-immigrant extremism over the safety of the American people,” Pelosi continued.

“It’s a failure. It’s a stop-gap measure, in this case failure to come to terms,” she added.

Pelosi’s barbs come a day after another leading Democrat pulled off his gloves, this time on the House floor. Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer called House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy “a coward” during debate Thursday night over the DHS bill. Hoyer later apologized for the remark.
