People Actually Want To Boycott Beyonce After Her “Formation” Super Bowl Performance
Beyonce captivated millions of viewers during her Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday night (Feb. 7), performing her new single, “Formation.” Viewers and the Beyhive swarmed the Internet with excitement, but apparently not everyone was blown away by Mrs. Carter’s performance. In fact, a select few were turned off enough to suggest a Beyonce boycott because of the “harsh,” critical message in her song and video.
The “Formation” video was released over the weekend with vibrant and powerful visuals. The video, set in New Orleans, features striking imagery including a wall that states, “Stop Shooting Us.” The video also references the Black Lives Matter movement, Trayvon Martin, and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, depicting the singer on top of a New Orleans police cruiser, sinking in flooded water.
The video, as well as her performance didn’t go over well for many, according to The Washington Examiner. Police officers and families have called the performance inflammatory, saying the singer was promoting an “anti-cop” message. Someone even started a “Boycott Beyonce” Facebook page.
While some might have failed to fully think about the message Beyonce’s “Formation” was sending, many others were able to appreciate the song and video for more than an “anti-police” anthem. And we’re assuming besides this minority, Beyonce will be getting a lot more supporters of her message as tickets for her Formation World Tour go on sale tomorrow.
