Perfumania key sales figure rises 7.8 percent in January

BELLPORT, N.Y. (AP) -- Perfumania Holdings Inc., which sells perfumes and fragrances, said Thursday that revenue in stores open at least a year rose 7.8 percent in January.

The measurement is considered an important gauge of performance for retailers because it excludes results from stores that opened or closed within the last year.

Perfumania said that this measure rose 2.4 percent in the fourth quarter and rose 0.6 percent in the fiscal year 2013.

Total sales in January jumped 30 percent to $18.2 million from $14 million in the same month a year ago. Sales rose 7 percent to $109.6 in the fourth quarter and 2.7 percent to $290.3 million for the full year.

Perfumania Holdings shares rose 12 cents, or 2 percent, to $6.28.
