Perfumania says March sales improved
Perfumania says sales rose in March, and key revenue measurement rose 10 percent
BELLPORT, N.Y. (AP) -- Perfumania Holdings Inc. said Thursday that its sales rose 12.6 percent in March, and revenue at locations open at least a year rose 10 percent.
Shares of the company, which sells perfumes and fragrances, traded higher on the news.
Revenue at stores open at least a year is considered an important measure of health for retailers because it removes the volatility from stores that have opened or closed.
Perfumania said its total sales increased to $22.7 million over the five-week period that ended Saturday. That's up from $20.1 million a year ago.
For the year to date, the company said total sales rose 2.6 percent to $41.4 million, and revenue at stores open at least a year were up 0.4 percent.
Shares of Perfumania gained 31 cents, or 5.8 percent, to $5.63 in morning trading. The stock has traded between $4.13 and $9.91 in the past 52 weeks.
The company had 338 stores at the end of the month, down from 340 a year ago.
