Philly Tech Week 2013: Upcoming Event Highlights

Events Include Node Philly 2013, Build a Mobile App, Startup 101 & More

Philly Tech Week 2013 opened Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to the PTW 2013 website. Featuring such events as the "Grandest Game of Pong on the Planet," the Women in Tech Summit (WIT), the International Space Apps Challenge, among others, according to the PTW 2013 events calendar. Today's events included a kick-off breakfast, the Philly Robotics Expo, and other workshops, according to the events calendar.

The next few days are also packed with workshops and daylong events, according to Technical.ly Philly, and with that in mind, let's look at some anticipated events coming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Node Philly 2013

The University City Science Center will host Tuesday's all day event, the second annual Node Phillyconference from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., according to Node. Event details note that the Ninja Blocks Workshop starts the day, which is followed by a StrongLoop presentation and the main Node Philly 2013 event. Leadenomics and an after party end the day. According to Ticketleap, Evening Conference tickets are still available, and those who wish to attend may register at Ticketleap at a cost of $50 per person.

Build Your First Mobile App

The Penn State Great Valley Conference center in Malvern, Pa., will host Wednesday's all-day event, "Build your first Mobile App with HTML5, jQuery, PhoneGap and a BaaS," from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., according to PTW. The daylong workshop is free, and presented by Apigee, according to EventBrite. Speakers will teach HTML5, jQuery, and CSS standards that are important to know when building a mobile application for Android and iOS.

Prerequisites include having a basic understanding of jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Attendees must also bring a laptop with them. There are other prerequisites and restrictions, so those who wish to attend should read the full prerequisite details at EventBrite.

Future of Tech Transfer Lunchtime Series

Also on Thursday is the "Future of Tech Transfer" lunchtime series, hosted by the University City Science Center from noon until 1 p.m., according to Technical.ly Philly. Panel speakers will cover such topics growing Tech Transfer programs, whether students are included or not, and how Philadelphia fits in, in addition to examples of "tech transfer success stories," according to Technical.ly.

Second Chance to Build a Mobile App

For anyone who wanted to attend Wednesday's "Build your first Mobile App with HTML5, jQuery, PhoneGap and a BaaS," but couldn't, today offers a second chance to do so. From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., according to PTW, a second workshop is being held at the Penn State Great Valley Conference Center. Second Annual Startup 101 Workshop 101

From 4 to 7 p.m., the Pyramid Club in Philadelphia and PFIT Inc. will host the Second Annual Start-up 101 workshop, according to Phillymag.com. Speakers will cover everything a start-up needs to know to function properly including venture capital funding; start-up best practices; computing and telecommunications needs; insurance issues, and cloud computing, according to PTW. Tickets are $20 per person, and are available from Eventbrite.
