WARREN, Mich. -- Warren, a suburb of Detroit, experienced the first major snow of the season starting Wednesday afternoon.
By Thursday morning, six to seven inches of snow covered the ground. Although most area drivers are used to driving in this kind of weather, unplowed roads rendered the morning commute slippery and slow.
By 8:30 a.m., Schoenherr Road near 11 Mile was still icy, but at least the traffic was no longer backed up for miles. Earlier, one commuter said it took 20 minutes to travel three miles south on Schoenherr Road from 14 Mile to 11 Mile Road because only one lane was cleared for travel.
