SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- The first indication of a serious weather event came Christmas afternoon with a National Weather Service interruption of television broadcasting with a "Blizzard Warning" for several central Indiana counties.
About 6 a.m. on December 26, I awoke to the sounds of strong winds buffeting the windows of our bedroom. I opened the front door for a peek outside. That peek revealed exactly what the previous night's weather forecast had warned: Shelbyville was in the midst of a blizzard! Whiteout conditions prevailed in Clearview Addition on the south side of town. Blowing snow was already building sizable snowdrifts across yards, driveways and streets. Wind gusts were in excess of 40 miles per hour.
Our daughter and son-in-law were in from Seattle for Christmas. Our youngest son was back from Ball State, and two of our four grandchildren stayed over with us for the balance of their school break. We all enjoyed being "snowed in," eating leftovers and Mexican food and watching the blizzard. The photos will give a flavor of the snowy conditions around our house during the Indiana Blizzard of 2012.
