Photos of iPhone 5 Motherboard Allegedly Leaked

A photo of what is allegedly the logic board for the upcoming next-generation iPhone has cropped up on a Chinese iPhone forum. The board is said to show more antenna connections than the one in the iPhone 4S, suggesting that, if it is genuine, the next iPhone may have LTE connectivity.

A user of the site WeiPhone posted the photo on Sunday, and it was first reported by 9to5 Mac. The board lacks the usual labeling, the site says, suggesting it's a prototype unit. It also does not contain the processor, so nothing new can be discerned about that.

9to5 Mac got the iPhone repair specialists of iDeviceGuys to chime in on the discovery, and they made some observations:

    • First, the board has more antenna connections than the board in the iPhone 4S, which could mean LTE is coming to the so-called "iPhone 5."
    • The SIM card slot is smaller. This could mean Apple is switching to newer, nano-SIM card, which is even smaller than the current micro-SIM in the iPhone 4S.
    • The battery connector has four pins instead of five, suggesting a higher-capacity battery, such as the one in last week's rumor.
    • The connector for the display has been changed. That could mean a new-size display, which lines up with rumors the iPhone 5 will have a 4-inch or larger screen.

How legitimate is this information? There's no way to know, but apparently the original poster also posted photos of the logic board of the iPhone 4S before its release, and those turned out to be legitimate.
