Second-quarter earnings season unofficially began Tuesday after the markets closed with the announcement of Alcoa's results. The aluminum maker, watched closely for insight into metals demand, reported quarterly earnings of 18 cents a share, which was 6 cents higher than analystsâ¿¿ expectations. Symptomatic of the pressures in retail at the moment, The Container Store recorded a wider than expected net loss of 7 cents a share while analysts had expected losses of 6 cents. While Bob Evans Farm beat EPS estimates by 7 cents a share, sales slipped more than 2% and fell short of analysts' forecasts. less
