Wall Street was set for a lower open as the market took a breather from a recent rally that has taken the S&P 500 up 18.5 percent for the year, and as investors digested a slew of major earnings. Gains in energy and chemical companies helped nudge the stock market higher. The modest move extends a pattern seen this week. Even with plenty of earnings news from big companies, the broader market has shuffled between minor gains and minor losses. The price of oil rose slightly Thursday, as optimism about the U.S. economy helped erase some early losses. less
