Amish residents and other observers gather outside the courthouse after a hearings in Graves District Court in Mayfield, Ky. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011. Nine western Kentucky Amish men who refused to display a bright orange safety triangle on the back of their horse-drawn buggies have been ordered to jail for also refusing to pay court-imposed fines over the matter. The men, who belong to the strict Old Order Swartzentruber Amish sect, object to the triangles because the bright color violates their modesty code. They say paying the fines would amount to complying with a law they believe violates their religious strictures. (AP Photo/The Courier-Journal, Peter Smith) less
