Asha yawns as she rests atop a rock at the Birmingham Zoo in Birmingham, Ala Thursday, May 24, 2012. Five African lions born last year at the Birmingham Zoo will be one year old Saturday. The cubs were born on May 25, 2011 to first-time mother, Akili, and father, Kwanza. Their birth is especially significant because a typical litter of lions ranges from two to three cubs. The last litter of lions born at the Birmingham Zoo was in 1982. The cubs weighed between 4 – 6 pounds at birth, and their current weights range between 145 – 170 pounds.
