Anti-eviction activists carry mattresses after a family was evicted from their apartment in Madrid, January 23, 2015. Cecilia Paredes, 43, her husband Wilson Ruilova, 35, and their sons Andres, 16, Miguel, 7 and one-month old Dilan have been living in the apartment that belongs to Municipal Housing and Land Company (EMVS) for about four years. The couple are currently jobless and living on a shared total of 341 Euros ($382) in monthly subsidy. Unable to cope with the rent, Parades and her husband stopped paying it about two years ago. As a prolonged recession continues in Spain, jobless workers, unable to afford to pay rent are evicted from their apartments. The state company sold rent-controlled apartments to private investor groups who now demand their eviction. The City Hall Housing and Land Company (EMVS) a state company with an aim to give housing solutions for people in need, sold 1.860 state apartments to private investors, last year. (AP)
