In this April 14, 2012, photo Teresa Blackington of Alvaredo warms up before the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Fort Worth, Texas. Nine of the years 135 races have been held so far, with eight reporting a drop in participation numbers ranging from around 10 percent to 30 percent, Fort Worth reporting about a 23 percent drop. While race organizers cite the economy and other possible contributing factors, there is also an acknowledgment of the effect of the Planned Parenthood debacle, which angered both people on both sides of the abortion debate.
