Amazon is offering to bypass Hachette and give authors caught up in the dispute between the two companies 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their digital books. Hachette has refused the offer and seeks to continue negotiations with Amazon. The dispute arose from a pricing negotiation between the Ebook seller and the publishing house back in early June. As a result, Amazon created artificial purchase delays - this meant that books that should have been available for next-day delivery were shipped in 2 to 5 weeks. The company also failed to make books available for pre-order including J.K. Rowling's latest novel, "The Silkworm," published under pen-name Robert Galbraith. Amazon's offer may be appealing to the authors affected by the dispute but places them in dicey territory with Hachette. Amazon continues as the leading Ebook seller, dominating 60 percent of the market. less
