Commuters exit from a transit stop in Bogota, Colombia, Wednesday March 14, 2012. Bogota's 11-year-old TransMilenio system has become a victim of its own success and municipal neglect as city administrations failed to expand to accommodate the increase in commuters; built to handle only half of the 1.7 million passengers it now carries daily. Last week, commuter frustration with deteriorating service reached a boiling point as a protest against the TransMilenio's overcrowded buses and stations turned violent, nearly paralyzing this Andean city of 8 million.
