A crane operator lifts an old refrigerator to be dropped into the only fully robotic recycling system in the United States, at JACO Environmental in Stow, Ohio on Friday, May 27, 2011. The company has developed a system that chops up the old appliances, sorts out the plastics and metals, and then turns them into clean industrial feedstock for new manufacturing. The refrigerator will be ground apart in the machine, with plastics, metal, glass, gas and foam automatically being sorted and seperated. Within specific guidelines, First Energy is offering customers in Ohio a rebate to turn in their old working refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners to be recycled at the facility. less
