The Dalai Lama was speaking at a Brown University event at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The speech at the center was also shown on live monitors there and had closed captions to help those unable to understand His Holiness due to his strong accent. The person transcribing his remarks, though, misheard the words "forget it" and wrote a profane phrase which was then shown on a large screen to attendees. To clear up the matter, Brown University, through a spokesperson, said "The Dalai Lama's last word of the day, verified by his personal translator, was forget. The University regrets any confusion caused by the transcription."
