In this Dec. 21, 2010 photo, three desert bighorn sheep are airlifted off of Elephant Mountain, rear, after being captured, and brought to Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management area for processing before being relocated near Alpine, Texas. For decades, Texas wildlife officials and conservation groups have worked to rebuild the number of desert bighorn sheep in the state. All but extinct in Texas by the 1960s from more than 1,500 in the late 1800s, efforts to restore them in Texas' Trans-Pecos region have proved successful. less
