Defendant Jason Gibson and defense attorney Susan Reed sit in courtroom of Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit on May 3, 2011. Gibson was ordered to serve a mandatory term of life in prison with no chance of parole during an emotional sentencing hearing Thursday, May 5, 2011. Gibson was convicted by a jury in March of premeditated first-degree murder, murder of a peace officer and felony murder in the ambush-style slaying of Brian Huff at a vacant east side duplex. Huff, 42, was shot twice in the head as he announced "police" and kicked in the front door. Huff's gun remained in its holster. less
