Diver, Cheyne Settlemire, survived a face-to-face encounter with a 13-foot tiger shark in Yokohama Bay in Hawaii. The diver was 200 yards out and had just started heading back to shore when the animal came up behind him. The aggressive shark charged Settlemire 15 times and left bite marks on his buoy. He suspects the shark was attracted to fish he had caught and attached to the floater. Settlemire deterred the attack with a shark stick attached to his spear. Once he was on land he called for help and escaped without injuries. Lifeguards warned other divers and beachgoers of the incident and the beach was closed for 4 hours with no additional signs of the tiger shark. less
