With astonishing speed, Egypt has moved from a nation in crisis to a nation in real danger of slipping into a prolonged bout of violence or even civil war. President Barack Obama may not have directly threatened to cut aid to Egypt, but he made clear that the status quo is no longer acceptable. President Obama announced Thursday the cancellation of joint exercises with the Egyptian military and noted that his administration could take further steps to deal with the violence in Egypt.
