The Bengal Tiger population in India is estimated to be no more than 1600 individuals. There are more Bengal Tigers in American zoos than tigers in the wild. They are vanishing at an alarming rate, and their natural habitat is reduced by the encroachment of people, who harvest their forest cover for wood burning fuel and poaching.
