Energy Minister Doris Leuthard arrives for a press conference in Bern, Switzerland Wednesday May 25, 2011. The Swiss government has decided Wednesday May 25, 2011 to get out of the nuclear energy business and order the decommissioning of all five of its nuclear power plants after a half-century of use. The decision not to replace existing nuclear plants after they reach 50 years of use means that Switzerland's nuclear reactors would go offline between 2019 and 2034, with the Alpine nation turning instead to entirely non-nuclear sources of power. It follows days after an estimated 20,000 people took part in the biggest anti-nuclear protest in Switzerland in 25 years by people concerned about the continuing crisis at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant. less
