Environmental advocates pick up trash along a coastline to mark International Coastal Cleanup Day in Paranaque city, metro Manila September 21, 2013. About 5,000 volunteers, government workers and activists collected plastics and other non-biodegradable waste washed ashore along a 175 hectare marshland, home to about 82 species of migratory birds on the south-western coast of Manila. The National Solid Waste Management Commission reported that Manila, with 10 million inhabitants, produces 8,700 tonnes of garbage daily, which is the largest amount in the country.
