FILE - In this Aug. 17, 2010 file photo genetically modified sugar beets are harvested south of East Grand Forks, Minn. A federal judge in California has ordered plants that produce seeds for the nation’s sugar beet crop to be destroyed, saying there is “significant risk the plantings … will cause environmental harm.” The ruling was the latest in the ongoing battle over genetically modified sugar beets, and it raises questions about the future of the crop, which produces about half of the nation’s sugar supply. less
