FILE - In this Feb. 27, 2004 file photo, Christine Goerke, right, as Donna Elvira, has her wine glass filled by Rene Pape, center, as Leporello with Hei-Kyung Hong, left, performing as Zerlina during a dress rehearsal of "Don Giovanni" at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Born on Long Island, Goerke's Met debut came in 1995 and she sang there regularly for a while. But since 2004, her only appearances had been in 2009 as the Foreign Princess in Dvorak's “Rusalka.” Now she has made a triumphant return to the Met in the 2013 production of Richard Strauss's monumental fable “Die Frau ohne Schatten,” (“The Woman Without a Shadow”), cast in a notoriously difficult dramatic soprano role, the discontented Dyer's Wife.
