TOKYO, JAPAN - MARCH 12: (FILE PHOTO) Japanese activists gather and protest upon the arrival of Japan's whaling vessel Shonan Maru 2 detaining a New Zealand anti-whaling activist Peter Bethune, a member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and was the captain of the high-tech powerboat Ady Gil at Tokyo Bay on March 12, 2010 in Tokyo, Japan. It was confirmed today by the Japanese Minister of Fisheries that the whale hunt in the Southern Ocean would go ahead again, beginning in December. Clashes with the Sea Shepherd conservation group have become dangerous, and the most recent hunt in the Southern Ocean was cut short. Sea Shepherd leader Paul Watson said this week that 'They will have to kill us to prevent us from intervening once again.' Commercial whaling is banned, but Japan uses an exception which allows kills for research. (Photo by Koichi Kamoshida/Getty Images) less
