FILE - In this March 2, 2010 file photo, a U.S. Marine takes photos on Invasion Beach with a backdrop of Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima, Japan. A memorial service was held jointly by Japan and the United States to mark the 67th anniversary of one of World War II's bloodiest and most symbolic battles on the remote island, 700 miles (1,100 kilometers) south of Tokyo, Wednesday, March 14, 2012. The battle on the island, which is now known in Japan as Ioto and uninhabited except for a small Japanese military outpost, claimed 6,821 American and 21,570 Japanese lives. The annual memorial, called the Reunion of Honor, was canceled last year because of Japan's devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami. (AP Photos/Eric Talmadge, File) less
