FILE - In this May 30, 2012 file photo, a sign welcomes visitors to the Sanford Underground Research Facility at 4,850 feet beneath the earth in Lead, S.D. Black Hills State University said it plans to open a campus deep underground at the research facility. The underground space will accommodate both undergraduate and graduate students.
