Management software company Compuware Corp has renewed efforts to sell itself, courting not just the buyers of rival BMC Software Inc but also CA Technologies Inc and other buyout firms. Compuware rejected a $2.3 billion offer from New York-based hedge fund Elliott Management Corp in January and asked Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Allen & Company to seek a better offer. U.S. stocks were nearly flat after data showed the jobless rate fell in July but U.S. hiring slowed, as the Dow and the S&P 500 pulled back from the record closing highs they hit on Thursday. James Bullard, a top Fed official, said that July's drop in the unemployment rate takes the nation closer to a 7 percent threshold outlined by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke as the point around which the central bank would likely end bond purchases. less
