Human rights activist Shin Dong-hyuk gestures during a Reuters interview in Washington December 19, 2013. Seoul-based North Korean human rights activist Shin is the only person born in a North Korean labor camp known to have escaped from the country. Part of his right middle finger (pictured) was cut off for accidentally breaking a sewing machine during his time in camp. He said in an open letter in the Washington Post that retired U.S. basketball star Dennis Rodman should talk to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un about human rights abuses in North Korea during his visit. However, Rodman said on Thursday he was not going to North Korea to talk about politics or human rights, but to visit his friend Kim and to coach basketball.
