This image taken on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, shows an outside view of the shopping center Stuecki in Basel, Switzerland. When the super-sized Stuecki Shopping Center opened close to the borders of France and Germany to great fanfare less than two years ago, the towering white monolith of 120 stores was envisioned as a huge new draw for a rundown area of this major industrial city in northern Switzerland. Now, the soaring Swiss franc is driving shoppers over the borders and into the euro-zone, where their money buys a whole lot more, in what has become a daily phenomenon along the borders of a nation in the heart of Europe that is suffering from the unintended side effects of its own prudent economic policies.
