Of all the speeches that I heard during the days following 9/11 the one that sticks in my mind was the pope. "God bless the innocents whose lives were taken, for I fear evil has not had the last word."

On Sept. 11th it was not just the US that lost innocent lives though we took a massive toll. The World Trade Center is host to businesses and employees from around the world. People of all life styles, races, cultures, citizenship and religions died that day. Seeing all of the countries that took time to commemorate something that happened in a country thousands of miles away from them (and one they often disagree with) is touching in a way that seems rarely seen now a days.
One thing I find disturbing are the comments regarding the picture of the Muslim woman. First off, stop being ignorant. Ignorance and Intolerance is part and parcel to the causes of war and hate. There were Muslims that died that day (and I'm not just talking about the hijackers before some of you get stupid). Emergency responders and innocent workers died. A newsflash to some of you Americans. Not everyone is a white Christian and that most assuredly goes for those that died that day. Her face isn't uncovered so that you can see her smile celebrating our loss. Not all Muslim women have to cover their faces. It's an extreme to require that just like Christians have their extreme guide lines depending on the denomination. She's at a commemoration in Germany. That's the American flag in the background. Could there be a possibility that she's celebrating life? Could there be a possibility that someone said something pleasant to her as the photographer took her picture? Don't think the worst first and don't discount her and others of other religions. Not all Muslims like the tyranny in their countries, they fear going against it because of murderous regimes that perform genocide on their own people. Many of whom aren't even allowed to read their own biblical texts let alone are able to.
I, like most Americans, watched those towers fall that day. Saw the news reports of the Pentagon being hit and Flight 93 going down. I want answers and, like most Americans, don't believe it ended with Bin Laden's death or that that completely dispelled the guilt behind that day. But I refuse... REFUSE... to be ignorant. I refuse to wrap everyone up in a bubble and say who is the enemy because of their skin color or religion.
Be angry. Hate those behind this. But do not be ignorant. We haven't learned from our own history. Just because Japanese aided our enemies in WWII didn't mean we should have put those in the U.S. in prison camps but we did. Just because a bunch of radical extremists (who like the pillagers and rapists of the Crusades claiming Christendom) plunged us into despair that day doesn't mean they are all our enemies. It doesn't mean we can beat those that are innocent - and some that aren't even of the right ethnicity to start with.
There is nothing that will bring back our loved ones from that day or the days of war following it. There will always be doubt, fear and anger. Let's not bring those that are innocent into it. Let's remember and hope and work for it not happening again. Let's grieve and know that there are others that grieve with us and for us.
September 11th was a day in history for America that should not and will not be forgotten but we also have to learn and grow.

My thoughts go out to those that lost loved ones and those just now old enough to understand. To the soldiers still fighting a war that may never end. To those that grieve with us.

How heart warming that other countries have memorials for our loss. We are all victims of these cowards.

I'm glad that people around the world realize that although this despicable act took place on U.S. soil, it was STILL an international incident. Many people from many other countries died that day. It was a personal insult and attack on all civilized societies and their freedom.

I am so glad to see that people around the world felt the tragedy that this day represents. On that day, innocent people from all walks of life, all faiths, and multiple countries died because of an insane belief that no God would ever endorse. If the United States can be attacked in its homeland, including it's symbol of military might, then people of the world know that nobody is safe from hate and terrorism. That's why all of us who know that this tactic is unacceptable and unjustified need to fight against those who have no regard for human life.

This shows to me, the world CAN and DID come together, I was so touched to see many countries also honor the day America's tragedy, may some DAY this small world find peace throughout.

Poor choice of words, as well. "Commemorations took place throughout Europe to mark the Al Qaeda terrorist attacks " Were these commemorations marking terrorism or the victims of this horrific tragedy?

When 9/11 happened, it was so easy for America to forget the rest of the world for a moment. It's moving to see that the rest of the world hadn't forgotten about us. It's so wonderful to see that the human spirit stretches over boundaries. Thank you for remembering.

The Qur'an says to kill those who don't believe in Allah and those who change their Islamic religion; who we call "extremists" are Muslims that literally obey the Qur'an. There may be peaceful Musilms here in the US, but the reality is that they are reading and practicing the same Qur'an the terrorists and "extremists" are reading and practicing in the Middle East; it's just that in the US they pick and choose what they want to obey and choose the peaceful part of the Qur'an. Someone asked why more Muslims in the US aren't standing up and condemning exremists? Don't you know a house divided against itself cannot stand? Nevertheless, a true and faithful Muslim would not condemn an extremist, but applaud him/her for obeying the Qur'an and, therefore, obeying Allah. We should not be naive to what is going on here.

Thank you, Wolrd, for supporting us....you lost so much, too, in the attacks, and we all suffered as a consequence.

I happen to like this photo. I guess b/c it makes me think of the unity we could have if some people in America would just realize that not all muslims are bad. And if we do that we can all smile together.

I think these photo's are a testament to how dearly around the world we hold our freedoms. It isn't just about America, but the attack on our freedoms, our way of life.

to bad it takes a tragedy for us to unite...
those attacks on 9/11 have changed the world as we knew it and i sure hope one day 9/11 will become a celebration of life and not a mourning of death anymore.
