BANGKOK, THAILAND - DECEMBER 05: People hold up candles and sing a song honoring King Bhumibol Adulyadej during a ceremony celebrating the King's birthday at Royal Ground on December 5, 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. The King of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born in 1927 and celebrates his 85th birthday. Tens of thousands come to pay respect and get a rare chance to see him in person. The King has reigned since June 1946, making him the world's longest reigning current monarch and the world's longest serving head of state, it has been in continuous existence since the founding of the Kingdom of Sukhothai in 1238. Supporters wear yellow representing Monday, the birthday of His Majesty the King. The king's power is limited to being a symbolic figurehead, commanding the respect and reverence of the Thai people.
