The decision was made by the city's emergency manager Kevyn Orr in order to prevent cuts to police, fire and other basic services. Microsoft Corp shares fell 9 percent in early trading, a day after the software company posted dismal quarterly results due to weak demand for PCs and disappointing sales of its Surface tablets. A three-decade high for drilling activity outside North America lifted Schlumberger Limited to its seventh straight estimate-topping quarterly profit, while U.S.-focused Baker Hughes Incorporated came up short in a tough quarter at home. less
